Los Angeles Lakers : 99 : : Houston Rockets : 98 — November 7, 2013
I said I wasn’t mad, but god damn it, Dwight Howard, I am now. Why does your free throw shooting (5-of-16 from the line in a one-point loss) have to cost you a game against the Lakers after helping you to secure a win against the Trail Blazers two nights before? That’s probably why everyone hates you; that and all the words that come out of your mouth endlessly. I don’t HATE you though, but I sure am peeved with you.
Why did Chandler Parsons inbound the ball to you so you could go to the line with 53 seconds left and your team up by only two points? Why did you shank them like they were a couple of prison snitches? And why did your guards force you to play the role of “Long Arms McTulate” with the contest on the Ultimate Steve Blake Highlight™?
This is a good win for the Lakers, who almost coughed it up after building a 36-19 lead one quarter in, scoring just 35 points in the entire second half. Other than Steve Blake (14 points on 4-of-6 from behind the arc), it wasn’t a signature game for anyone, either because they’re far better than they played or because they aren’t very good and they played even worse than that. Regardless of who was terrible or how terrible they were, a last minute three made it all worthwhile. Would have loved to see a big three from Blake in Houston three and a half years ago, but so it goes.
